Hard floors may be beautiful, but the constant mopping they require has to be one of the most thankless chores imaginable.
The sparkling finish you work so hard to achieve seems to fade almost instantly as spills; stains and general debris instantly accumulate again; and nobody has the time to whip out the mop every day of the week to keep up the cleanliness.

Obstacle avoidance and drop sensors prevent any bumping of furniture or staircase disasters, and the remote control allows you to schedule cycles so you can always return to a clean home.
“Great vacuum, perfect for a house with no carpets,” wrote one five-star reviewer. “The mopping function works really well and great for daily cleaning of the floors, if you use it regularly you’ll notice that the floors clean easier too as the dirt hasn’t been sitting there for a while.”

BEST PREMIUM ROBOT MOP ECOVACS DEEBOT T9+ Robotic Vacuum, The Good Guys, $1,299
Another top seller at The Good Guys, the DEEBOT T9+ comes from ECOVACS, which itself is the top-selling robotic vacuum brand in Australia. Its oscillating mop design scrubs floors to remove tough stains and dirt with ease, and the vacuum is powerful yet quiet with auto-adjusting suction power when it detects hard and soft surfaces. It has an auto-emptying dustbin and you can edit the floor map, start and schedule cleaning via the intelligent ECOVACS app on your phone.
The machine has a 4.5-star average rating from reviewers at The Good Guys, but I have been able to test it personally and can confirm that it lives up to the hype.
As a lazy cleaner, I’ve found the DEEBOT T9+ to be a godsend. It does an excellent job of collecting dust and debris from around my apartment, cleverly avoiding furniture and the perilous staircase that leads to my front door. I was particularly impressed by the mop, which really scrubs my timber floors and tiled bathroom until they shine, while avoiding rugs and the carpeted bedrooms. It doesn’t over-saturate the mop either, so your floors aren’t left dripping wet. I can easily set it off with a simple “Hey Google, start vacuuming” thanks to its smart speaker compatibility. Its most convenient feature is the auto-emptying functionality, which sees the robot empty debris from the dust tank directly into a large bin attached to the charging station, so you don’t have to expose yourself to allergens (a saviour for hayfever sufferers like me).
Roborock S7 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner, Harvey Norman, $1,199
The intelligent Roborock S7 vacuums and mops floors with ease. Intense sonic mopping technology sees the scrubbing pad vibrate 3,000 times per minute to deeply and effectively clean hard floors, while the all-rubber main brush and hyperforce suction allow for efficient vacuuming. You can use the companion app to view vacuuming routes, adjust suction power, and customise cleaning sequences, and its capable of multi-level mapping for multi-floor homes.
Now available for preorder from Harvey Norman, it’s a powerful unit with a five-star average rating.
ARE ROBOT MOPS ANY GOOD?
Having used one myself, I can confirm that robot mops are incredibly effective at helping you clean your hard floors with far less effort. The best models – like the DEEBOT T9+ I own, the iRobot Braava jet m6, and the Bissell SpinWave – feature rotating or oscillating mop pads that use a scrubbing motion rather than simply wiping a wet pad across the floor. These models are the most effective when it comes to eliminating stains, stubborn debris or sticky spills.
CAN I USE A ROBOT MOP ON LAMINATE FLOORS?
Always double check the instructions on your robot’s manual, but generally, yes, you can use a robot mop on laminate floors, as well as most other hard surfaces including tile, stone, concrete, vinyl, and hardwood.
HOW DOES A ROBOT MOP WORK?
Robot mops and vacuums use sensors and varying mapping technologies to create a floorplan of your home, usually detecting carpeted and hard floors, and then design an intelligent cleaning route. Detailed instructions vary depending on the model you buy, but the general way to use them is to fill the water tank, attach a mopping pad, and set it off to mop around your home so you barely have to lift a finger, saving you plenty of time.
