The official day was marked on Tuesday, June 8, but the Waimānalo park dedicated to marine life is celebrating this weekend with kids activities and a chance to learn from nonprofit groups. Stop by Mālama na Honu and the Hawaiian Monk Seal Preservation ‘Ohana’s booths to learn more about how we can all help protect our ocean animals, watch a performance of the musical Honu by the Sea, scan a QR code to enter to win prizes, make crafts and pick up Waimānalo Country Farms lemonade or Windward Snow Shave Ice. Also fill out the storm water survey online for a chance to win an annual pass.

The sunflowers are out again and that means Waimānalo Country Farms has reopened its fields for a drive through for all your summer photo ops. Just like the spring, you’ll book a time for a single vehicle to drive the path and stop for several photos at scenic stations, including a new “Hello Summer” doorway we spotted on Instagram. On weekends, you can get a low country boil and corn on the cob to go. Remember, concessions are cash only.

Let the movie nights begin. This weekend’s film, Lilo & Stitch, kicks off movies at the wave pool every Saturday through Aug. 21. The lineup includes favorite family flicks as well as recent releases including Wonder Woman 1984 and Scoob. There are usually discounts and giveaways including this weekend’s prize pack which includes a night at Embassy Suites in Kapolei and tickets to the park. Also note that Wet’n’Wild is offering half off admission to all Hawai‘i residents and military before noon through the three-day weekend.

😷 Wet’n’Wild is one of the sites on O‘ahu that will be offering free COVID-19 vaccinations on Saturday, June 12. Queen’s Health Systems workers will be offering Pfizer vaccines for kids 12 years and older and the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for adults. You can pre-register here. This Japanese technique captures swirling ink on paper for a colorful marbled look. Kids will learn how to get started and receive a box of absorbent paper rounds to keep playing at home. The workshop is one of three keiki workshops at Fishcake shop’s FishSchool for older elementary school kids. Sign up now to create a creature-inspired ceramic cup with fishcake’s kiln (Friday, June 11 and June 18) or the landscape painting workshop (June 26) which will show young artists how to mix watercolor and oil pastel.

The STEM-focused Lego brick-building sessions are setting up shop at Windward Mall this summer. Bricks 4 Kidz will hold four-week building sessions for elementary school kids in June, July and August. Keiki will build motorized vehicles as they learn about gravity, friction, catapults, machines and other mechanical concepts. June is already sold out (there is a wait list) but there are still spaces for the rest of the season. Keep in mind, the early workshops, beginning at 9 a.m., are the most popular. When we last checked, there was just a single space left in that session for July.
